Excellent facilities and friendly staff. Not cheap but worth the money. Spa area is fantastic.

We had a Spa day visit with afternoon tea. We had a Rasul treatment and a full body massage in the same room together (my partner and I). We were very satisfied with both our treatments and really liked the spas facilities in general. The setting of the pool and jacuzzi is great in the converted barn, with a big window letting in lots of light. The steam room and sauna were as you would hope to expect, and the shower was particularly great with its different shower themes (tropical storm with thunder sounds and flashing white lights was particular great!). The afternoon tea topped off our day, with an exquisitely presented selection of sweets, scones and sandwiches. With the area in general being a lovely part of the world, I wouldn't hesitate in going back!

The hotel is located about half a mile from Bolton Abbey, and the views from the rooms at the back in the newer block were of uninterrupted countryside looking towards the beacon. The atmosphere here is perfect, it is a luxury country hotel but the staff are very friendly and helpful, not overbearing or stuffy at all. Some older hotels feel tired, but that was not my impression of the communal areas in the main parts of the hotel at all, of which there are many. You can easily find a suitable area to sit, be it a comfy bolt hole to relax and be on your own with a drink, or more informal areas like the cocktail lounge (next to the dog room where dogs are allowed) where you can chat to other guests (dogs are great conversation starters). We had the taster menu, which was perfect, food cooked perfectly and presented in a fine dining way, but not overly gimmicky. The dishes each explained well by our server which was also happy to answer questions and engage. We were on a deal and there for a treat but is still relatively expensive of course (and watch out for drinks prices) but perhaps not for 6 courses, two of which are from the a la carte menu anyway. Was amused to see not one but two helipads in the grounds and a sign warning that helicopters and there contents are left at owners risk.. ha ha. but then someone really did fly in, left their helicopter parked there and flew off in the morning.

Stayed 2 nights with hubby and our dog Ziggy last weekend. Everyone friendly and accomodated all our requirements regarding dining with our puppy. Chamber service a little slack, sour milk unopened and left in the warm fridge, last nights glasses left in the room until the end of our stay. However exceptionally clean, beautiful surroundings and good walks. Special thanks to Ben concierge, very genuinely helpful (dog lover) and knows how to stoke up a good log fire. Already booked 2 nights in December..hope it snows!!
